My 2000 Toyota Camry LE reverse light pops on and off when I'm driving. Why?

Asked by Aganaman1 Aug 08, 2016 at 03:46 PM about the 2000 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Since three weeks now when I'm driving with the gear selection stick in "D" mode, the dash board safety light illuminates back and forth between "D" and "Reverse" modes. However, when I move the stick to "reverse" position, the "D" safety light doesn't come on as I move in reverse direction. This back and forth illumination only happens when in drive "D" mode. Any suggestion on what I should do?

There is a positional sensor in a transmission that may be failing- best to get it to a shop as they can be internal and very hard to get at without the proper tools.
