drain and fill vs trans flush
In 2k I brought a new camry. Had trans flushes at dealer, at time intervals, according to manuel. At 120k, the trans would NOT go into drive. I had it towed to the same dealer, that did all the flushes. They claimed the flushes had nothing to do, with the failure. We settled on them putting a used trans. in it.
No mechanic seems sure which is better: drain and fill or flushes. What gives???

Never flush, only drain. Flushing can and will ruin gaskets and or orings
Never flush a transmission. What happens is any gum, varnish, debris, gets loose and starts circulating threw the trany, gets caught up in the small passages, blocks oil passages. It seems like no matter how well you flush the transmission you cannot get all the crap flushing dislodges out of the trany. If you ever seen a transmission torn apart, you see all the small oil passages and know what I mean. Just doing a filter change and oil change, you are not dissolving any build up so it just stays in place.
There is a difference between a transmission flush machine and a transmission fluid exchange machine.
So Bob, which would you do?
