2003 Toyota Camry Transmission for a 2005 Toyota Camry

Asked by kait020421 Feb 23, 2023 at 04:20 PM about the 2005 Toyota Camry LE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For some background in this situation, I am a 20-year-old woman without knowledge of transmissions; my car is a 2005 Toyota Camry. My transmission went out in my car, and I got a transmission for a 2003 model by accident. Is there any way to swap the two out?

I guess basically what I'm asking is, is there any way the 2003 transmission would be compatible with my 2005 car?
Everything lines and bolts up perfectly except for the wires, which are different. thank you.

No it is electronically incompatible. You need a numbers matching transmission. You might be better off rebuilding the stock transmission. The only thing I’ve seen is a stand alone transmission controller but those are for racing applications and I don’t think they make anything for foreign vehicles.

Stay away from whom ever bought the wrong one , see if you can return it for full refund or cut your loses and get a newer car . Replacing an old worn tranny with an old worn tranny makes little sense
