Is my starter bad?

My car won't turn over and then goes dim.
We tap on.the starter and then it starts. Is
that my starter? It sat overnight then started
right up then I drove and turned it off and it
wouldn't start again. Please help

Yes you are right it is a bad starter,heats up then you have no crank,and the tap trick you done confirm,s it all so.

If a tap on the starter makes it start it is likely a bad starter. Check the electrical cable connections to make sure that is not the problem before replacing the starter. The connections should be clean, free of corrosion and tight.
