Heat sometimes switches to cool when braking?

The Camry has roughly 220K miles. Not sure if it is an electrical or vacuum issue. With
the car warmed up and heat blowing, occasionally when applying the brakes the heat will
switch to cool air and after pumping the brakes a few times will resume blowing hot air. It
has begun to happen more frequently so whatever the issue might be it is getting worse.
Any idea what the cause might be?

Most likely Vacuum (vacuum assisted brakes) The "mixer" actuators are vacuum controlled ... sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. Surprised you are not losing performance
