What need to b done for 2005 chevy cavalier stop running on the interstate?

I was on the interstate n the Rpm went crazy
n I tried to get back on the gas n the car died
after half an hour I started it it ran fine for a
few miles the the same thing

Need to determine if you have spark, fuel,and/or air you should have some codes for this in your computer, go to parts store and get it read. I had a car that got water i the fuel tank and the tank rusted. AS i deove the sock over the fuel pump clogged up and the car died. All the rust fell off the sock and it ran again just like yours is doing now.
