Rim replacement

Asked by JohnPicco1959 Jan 13, 2014 at 11:30 AM about the 1999 Toyota Camry Solara 2 Dr SE Coupe

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 1999 Toyota Solara, automactic, 5S-FE engine 4cyl, with tire size of 205/65R15 on now. I would like to change rim sizes to 16". The manual indicates that I could upgrade to a P205/60R16 with rim size 16 x 6 JJ. This rim type is hard to find through TireRack and was going to put on 16 x 7 rims on but may run into interferences with the shocks or calibers systems. What is your opinion on how I should proceed.

you could go to the junkyard and look for a Solara or Camry or Avalon that came with that size wheels

With only .5 inches on either side you will have plenty of room to upgrade to a 16x7, Worries come in above that at 7.5 and 8 inches. Then you would need to change the offset to move the wheel out a bit more from the suspension. With the stock offset of 45mm you have 1.25 inches of room to play with as long as you keep the tire size the same as stock.
