Replaced alternator and battery; car won't start but horn goes off

Asked by Tiffany D. Jul 19, 2017 at 12:27 AM about the 1999 Toyota Camry Solara 2 Dr SLE V6 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the alternator and battery in a
1999 Toyota Solara, V6.

The car won't start and the horn blows kind
of like an alarm. There are strange clicking
noises in the cab while the horn is going off,
which makes me think there is an alarm.

Why won't the car start? How do I make the
alarm turn off?

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE YOURSELF AN AFTER MARKET SECURITY DEVICE . IF YOU GOT IT FROM USED LOT ALOT OF THEM WIRE IN SYSTEMS LIKE LOJACK AND GPS FOR LOCATION IN CASE OF NON PAYMENT. OFTEN TIMES HTE PEOPLE WIRE THEM IN DONT HALF KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THESE AFTERMARKET DEVICES CAN CAUSE WIRING ISSUES AND MALFUNCTIONS MUCH AS YOU DESCRIBE. UNHOOK THE BATTERY . WHEN YOU UNHOOKED YOUR OLD BATTERY YOULIKELY RESET YOUR CARS ECU AND WHEN YOU HOOKED IN THE NEW ONE AND IT TRIED TO REBOOT IT DID NOT RECOGNIZE YOUR ALARM AND CAUSED SECURITY SYSTEM TO GO OFF. UNKOOK YPUR BATTERY TO STOP ALARM . BE WARNED YOU MAY HAVE TO HAVE YOUR CAR LOOKED AT AT YOUR DEALERSHIP IF YOU HAVE ONE. THE PROBLEM MAY PRESIST EACH TIME YOU HOOK UP BATTERY .

I purchased both the alternator and battery at Auto Zone. I will your recommendations in the morning. I don't understand the car not even turning over...no click, no bang. Very frustrating! The horn is annoying, but at least it works. :/
