How can I determine that a wheel is causing shake?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes while driving at freeway speeds a shake develops that feels like a warped rotor--but is not a warped rotor. I think it is a bad wheel.

Have the dealership or a mechanic do a balance on the wheel. If they are able to balance it it may not be the wheel. Have them check it against factory spec to see if it is warped, a problem sometimes seen in aluminum wheels.

It must be warped. I've had the place where I get my tires specifically look at the wheels (they also sell wheels and have lots of equipment ). They found nothing. I did't mention any possible warp problem--maybe they have a different test. I'll call them. Steve

You did not state which wheel or axle you think it is coming from. I had a tire go bad that caused the same effect. The outside tread looked good, but I found the inside of the tire had the steel showing. Also a weak strut can cause this as it starts to bounce at high speeds. A spin ballance will determin a bent wheel.

If it about -70-60 strut look for leaks and bearing bearings the wheel schould turn two times around without drag strut schould spring back One time and settle and no wet mark soil and. Grease around area

Also ck tire sliped belt inside tire would do that
