2005 Chevy cobalt LS won’t start after shutting off while driving

Asked by Dvelazquez104 Jan 17, 2019 at 09:46 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I was driving home yesterday and at the
red light, my car decided to shut off. Couldn’t
get it back on so had to have it towed home.
Well it just had a tune up about a week ago,
we also replaced started and battery like 4
weeks ago. Car won’t turn over but all lights
and radio and everything comes on. Once we
got it home, we tried to see what’s up with it,
check engine light, my rear view mirror light
and the high beams light started flashing at
same time which it wasn’t doing that before
the tow home. We tried to see if it’s the
starter, and the start did make a spark and
clicked once and stopped and wouldn’t click
anymore.. also the light of a lock came on the
dashboard too. Everything was fine driving
wise and then it just turned off and won’t
come on.. we even made sure the battery
was all connected good and all..

Get the alternator tested sounds like it has stopped charging.

If battery you replaced was 3 years or newer, you probably have an alternator issues not charging battery. Also clean all connections and disconnect negative terminal when changing out alternator. Eliminate loose and corroded connections while changing out alternator.

Yeah battery was replaced at same time starter was which was about 4 weeks ago. Alternator was replaced about 2-2 and a half years ago

A battery with 11 volts will easily light headlights but will not start a car in most cases. Seen it too many times.

You all missed the KEY piece of info.! The Lock symbol on the dashboard.!! It thinks you stole it, it's shutting off and not turning back on because the anti-theft is tripping out. Get in, turn the key all the way but don't twist to start just turn to start the last position then leave it there for ten minutes the LOCK light will lstart to blink turn the key back off and take out. Now put key back in and try to start. Whooolaa.!
