what would cause a rough idle?

I've been chasing the same problem on my 05 ss
sc for about 6 months. the problem got worse
when I did some hp upgrades

Without knowing what you did to add extra HP, we wouldn't know how to help. Rough idling is usually an indication of a misfire or a vacuum leak. Is the Check engine light on?

I agree. Not enough info. Have you scanned it for trouble codes. That's usually a good place to start looking.
