if you can smell fuel and it will try to crank but not start i would start by checking the spark plug wires and see if you are getting fire it sounds like to me there is a big possibility you are out of time

These cars are notorious for ignition modules driverside underhood pocket item at local pull it yourself yard be sure to color match sticker plus numbers prior to aquiring a different one. Distributor is also a common problem. Spark can be checked w cap removed be sure to remove all Three 8mm screws two are in plain site on on the very bottom, screw driver NOT recommended possible stripping of screws and also will fall out and be lost very easily be careful. If cap has excessive corrosion on contacts (inside cap) car will not start, oh when removing cap dont slide it off, lift straight off there is a contact pin for the internal coil.
