ABS was an option in 1996. One way to tell is turn the key to 'on' the 'run' position, but do not start the car..... and the battery light, the CEL, all the warning lights should come on. If you see the ABS warning light, then you know ..but this is not proof, I don't know what the warning light symbol looks like, or if it has letters ABS, but if you do see the warning you know for sure. Or, you can test it.....find a SAFE empty road, get up to about 50 and do a panic stop. If you feel the pedal pulsate and do not skid, you DO. If the wheels lock in to a full skid, then it does not.

Can't rely on the light symbol when key is turned on to do a bulb check cause the bulb could be burnt out or there won't be a bulb in that particular socket!
