I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla with 130K miles. We recently had a lot of rain and the water line on the car indicates that the yard was flooded up to about mid bumper on the car. The car did have about 1/4 inch of standing water in floor. The car idled a little rough when first started, but drove fine for a couple short trips from the house. The third trip was about a mile and a half away and the car stopped on us. We now cannot get it to stay running unless our foot is on the gas. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong with it?

The ECU, or car's computer is in the cabin up under the dash. All that moisture, everywhere inside and out could have caused a flow of current from who knows where to, well, who knows where be it in the cabin or under hood. I have a feeling that if you drive it a while and assuming no more moisture gets in, let everything dry and it should be fine. (if you can, without sacrificing the security of your car) leave the windows open for a few days. As long as there is no more rain of course. Meantime, take the distributor cap off and spray some starting fluid inside it, then allow to dry. If you don't have starting fluid on hand no need to go buy it. Wipe inside with a clean rag.

If it is still not running right in about 2..3 days, come on back and we can figure out what to do
