why would my new belt on my 2003 toyota corolla squeal when stopped at a red light?

my belt broke on my 2003 toyota corolla we replaced it with a new one and it will start
sqealing when i am stopped at a red light and the car acts like it wants to die

the easy answer: the belt is not tight enough- the tough answer: maybe something got broken when your belt broke and whoever put it on, missed it- if the "mechanic" can't get the correct tension on the belt, anything is possible under your hood- what you can do next time: be proactive on your scheduled maintenance and don't let your car get to the point where a belt breaks
