i was driving and had my car on drive obviously but while i was driving, the car acted like it was on neutral. Would I be able to fix this problem or would i have to buy a whole new transmission

Look at CV joints and axle. If you broke a drive-axle, it won't move...but you would hear that..no doubt, if a CV joint came apart. Likely play Taps to that transmission, and it's a whole lot easier to do the entire transaxle than try to separate the transmission. But check the fluid first before getting carried away...but then again that would not happen suddenly..one minute driving then just quit. It has an accumulator pump that can fail, but forget about replacing just that pump, among other things
