Serpentine Belt Tensioner - Remove & Replace - When is it necessary?

Asked by TLX_4135 Jan 09, 2018 at 09:37 PM about the 2005 Toyota Corolla CE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It's the Tensioner that may need to be replaced - $195 + labor of $105.  The
Belt is great though. The Squealing noise is getting worse, but not terrible.
When is it necessary to replace? How can you know without going in and
removing it? Can't it be adjusted?

If the bearing in the idler wheel is bad do it right away or you be end up being stranded when it seizes up.
