Brake pedal will only depress half way, not allowing me to shift out of park.
Moved from CA to Northwest a year ago (cold & snowy). 5" icicles on undercarriage. Parked on driveway with steep slant, approx. 25-30 degree pitch. Can a brake line or pedal freeze?? Is there a switch or button that can be pushed to bypass brake in order to shift? Thanks so much!! Cole
And it's not the battery terminal, but nice to know that could happen.
First, brake fluid will not freeze. But ice in linkage will freeze and cause restricted movement. My Corolla gets icicles everywhere, and have had no such problems, It was 12° last week. A 25° is very steep... but yes, there is a tab by the shifter about ¾" square that you can use an small flat screwdriver to pop cover off, the stick your finger in there and push tab, will over-ride shift interlock
Solved problem!! brake pads had to of been wet last time I parked 3 weeks ago, then we had a small snow and ice storm 2 weeks ago. Even though emergency brake easily released inside vehicle, the brake pads stayed frozen to rotor. Hot water thrown on INSIDE of back wheels released pads. Do this with emergency brake off. Thanks FordNut, nice to know how to disengage shifter.
