how do you know if your idle control valve is bad

Some time when i start the truck up run in cold start as so as it warm up and
slow to normal operation temp and slow it shut off. start it back up after the start
run little wail. Then it runs but sputters a little at take but pick up and run fine
idle right at 750 RPM

Tap on it. If the idle improves it is probably bad.
