How do I replace a transmission range switch on a 2004 rav4??

What are the symptoms. Are you sure it is the transmission range switch? The RAV 4's 2001-2003 and 2004 are having ECM problems and the codes point to other problems because the ECM ( the brain) doesn't think it had a problem.

100% positive. I've already had my mechanic look at it and I would just like to be able to do the work myself to save a little money.

Symptoms are When i put the car in drive, the lights on my dash say im in both drive a reverse and my reverse lights stay on all the time. Months back I had about 2 days where I couldn't get the car to go in reverse, it either wouldn't go or would kind of buck and jerk. Other then that it seems to shift fine and accelerate fine as well. I also approx. 5,000 miles ago put in a "new" (used) engine as the engine was shot.
