What could it be my car made this clunk or thump sound. I smelled burned rubber and my car stopped moving. It will go in gear (drive) but barely moves.

I noticed the sound a day before when I
would brake. The clunk or thump sound
entire car jerk.   My car has 71526 miles

No rubbing....had the mechanic who did the brakes. He found nothing wrong. Again the issue didn't come about til after I gotten the brakes done.
