Lost of presure on my 05 impala

Asked by Laya Mar 15, 2017 at 08:16 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What makes my impala lose speed and bog
down while engine light is flashisg ? If i
feather petel it will start to regain speed. If i
floor it then the car boggs worse. I just got
car with issues of cluster panel had quit and
they said blower moder went out. But once it
started this lose of speed i had check all my
fuulds and my resevor was almost empty.
So i filled with 50/50 to marked line and got
heat and ac to blow properly. Then the tail
pipe broke and flew ofc at catilace converter
now its all missing from c converter back.
Car ran great extra loud but great for few
days and then the check engine lite started
blinking again and soon as it does i lose
speed and power. Only feathering the pettel
for a few miles while it bogs and spits and
sutturs then once light goes back to soild
red none flashing i regain all power and
speed. Most the time if i start and warm it
up for ten or so mins it will sputter and then
idel will level out and it will run great . Some
times it runs great till i start up hill and il lose
speed and then will stop sputgering and
light will go back to soild red and run fine. I
need real help her i bought this car over a
month ago and have had small issues like
change oil lite pops on sometimes and the
igsoste is still off. Please help

To be sure on whats going on the vehicle should be scanned for any trouble codes. The catalytic converter could be plugged, and if you lost the exhaust from the cat on back, you may have lost a O2 sensor. The exhaust definitely is in need of repair to correct some of the problems you are having.

Ok so what about the bogging down at40 and check engine light blinking and then losing power til i feather the pettal until light goes soild does that mean a sensor is bad or would the 02 sensor make it sputter like that. My tail pipe was creaked at cat and my bro touched it bearly and it pushed the pipe up less then and inch and the sputtering stoppes and ran great and the next day whole igsost fell off on a gravel road and it flashed a few times then ran good for couple days until it was storming and i hit a puddel and the blinking and sputtering started again. Do u think this could just be 02 sensor ? And can u tell me were it sets on cat plz?

You can check the catalytic converter by just running the car for a while, then pulling off in a dark area with the engine still running and look to see if the cat is glowing orange or even a tint of orange. This would indicate a plugged catalytic converter. This does hold the engine back, makes it bog down. And it is more than just a O2 sensor causing your problems. The exhaust needs to be in-tacked for the engine to be able to perform properly. One of the O2 sensors is back past the cat somewhere in the exhaust. Look for any dangling wires around where the exhaust pipes go.

Thank u that makes since . And ill try that and see what how it acts and if i have any more questions ill try to contact u again
