i pulled the hood release from inside the car and it seems to have pulled to far and now it won't retract back. Also the
hood won't close it won't latch. Does anyone know if there is an emergency release for the cable?

might be caught on something or it broke. locate the cable to the latch and give it a nice couple of pulls to get it un suck.
If this is like what mine does, open the hood and look at the mechanism. There is a large spring and a smaller spring below it that is supposed to pull the cable back in place. The smaller spring is supposed to pull to the left as you face the truck. Use a flat head screwdriver to release the piece attached to the spring by pushing it to the left. It's not real convenient, but it beats not having the hood latch.
This worked like a charm! I sprayed a little W-D 40 on the spring release too. The guy who checked it out for me at the dealership figured it would be $250 to replace the latch and the cable. No need with this slick trick on my 252k miles 14 yr old rusty Sequoia.
