When I hit my brakes yesterday to slow down, my 05 trailbazer sounded like the rear end was falling out. It made a noise for about 200 feet and then the noise stopped but it smelled like

from what you describe, its sounds like possibly you have a rear axle seal that has leaked rearend grease onto your brake shoes and they could have come apart. That may have been the noise you heard, and thats why you're getting a metal to metal sound now. also burning axle grease CAN smell like rubber. Have those rear brakes checked as well as the axle seal. If the seal is leaking, it will be obvious when you remove the brake drum. GOOD LUCK!

I have same problem.except no smell but the sound actually sounds like an emergency brake being pulled on.it only does it when I first take off and when I tend to slow down.carcruces and cells find but that sound worries me idk if I should drive the1800 moles home now!
