Speedometer/Odometer not functioning

Asked by FrankieZ4 Jul 19, 2015 at 07:19 PM about the 2004 Toyota Tundra V8 SR5 4 Door Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The speedometer as well as the odometer are not functioning. Even after replacing the VSS, it still won't calculate the speed or show how many miles have been driven. All other gauges work fine. All fuses are perfectly fine as well. I don't think it's a bad cluster because wouldn't the other gauges be messed up too? I certainly hope it isn't the ECM either. Anyone have any ideas?

Check your wiring harness on the back of the rear differential. There are sensors back there and if they get all dirty or corroded, it will cause your issue. I believe there is a sensor located behind the wheel bearing area on top of the differential. I think it's a magnet. It's probably all dirty, which is causing your speedo failure.
