Did you slightly pump the breaks once replaced? The pistons in the calipers need to get pushed out back to the break pads by pumping the breaks. If the ABS light still stays on then take it somewhere to have the code read by a scanner capable of reading ABS code. This will tell you exactly what is wrong.

It could be a wheel speed sensor with broken wires or it's just wore out, if you live in a state where the winters collect deep snow on roads the sensors take a beating. Scan vehicle and go from there. Even if dash light isn't on there still should be a history code for ABS related issues in the past
bleed the air out to get the pedal stiff again. takes 2 people, one to open the bleeder on each wheel caliper and the other to [ump the brakes 3 times and hold to the floor till the other one closes the bleeder valve..
