Skid plates will protect the under-carriage of your vehicle. A package will usually have several pieces in one convinient price. This type of part is usually used in rock climbing or off-road applications.

how would I know if I have this package? I'm 2nd owner of 2004 avalanche.

If you look under the engine there would be a metal plate that protects the oil pan from anything that may come up and put a hole in it while off roading. Mine runs from the front of the engine all the way to the transmission leaving just enough room to change the oil filter
