Not getting enough gas.get a can of WD 40 and clean your carburetor.
inspect the shifter cable.. they can detach from the link in time on the driver's side of the engine.
It's probably the linkage for shifter, I had same problem and it was the linkage needed adjusted
You can start ot on natural or push shifter all the way up on park
i should say it is the age that cracks the plastic shift cable on the driver's side of the engine.. might be slightly off.
