the stock radio/cd player in the 2004 impala contains program settings for the message center i.e. low tire pressure warning, oil change monitor, auto door lock settings. If i switch to an after market CD player will I loose the ability to program these settings?

Hi Lestat. Excellent question. I don't know the answer but I'm guessing that if you drop into your local car audio shp they will be able to fill you in. I'd be surprised if that were available, but you never know until you check. Good luck!
Lestat, I am switching to an aftermarket radio for my 04 impala too. I found a blog about Metra's VT-GMRC-01 GM Class II Bus Interface. It is a part for you car around 80 bucks that should help your car maintain the door chime and safety warnings. Hope that helps!
I have an 2002 Impala and wanted a different cd player in it... my bf worked at ccity in the road shop and actually just kept the original stereo in it but it is in my trunk... so i can still change and reset all that stuff... i am 99% sure he didnt have to do anything special for that.... just an idea... hope it helps
