Asked by Rebel Jun 21, 2016 at 10:27 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My middle console went up in smoke and i
smelt a burnt rubber smell i ripped off the
cover and found tht. Two cables had there
insulation completley incinerated and they
were red hot .  wen seperated they cooled
don and wen they touch it sparks. Up . its a
2004 impala 1 of the wires was broken. I
turned my car off and aired it out. I checked
under my hood and nothing. So i turned my
car on and realized my dash lights. Nd my
radio lights were not working but the
warning lights and radio itself were still
working. I made it home safley because i
divided evrywire and placed a towel so it
wouldnt touch while i was driving home . i

It could just be the wire are stripped and they are touching? Do you have an AUX cable in there? Just put electrical tape and tape each individual.

I can email them idk how copy and paste works also. Yes i did have an aux and the wores are not touching now but they were before. When it was smoking. .

An update i had no choice but to drive to work with my car like tht but decided to play w the cables to c which ones caused the spark aftet it sparked my lights on the dash and radio came back on for about 3 mins and went bck out i did it again nd boom lights bqck on for 3 mins. Evrything else is running fine.
