Drivers side Door handle of Chevy Malibu Long Question

Asked by JENeufeld Sep 03, 2013 at 03:39 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When a coworker was attempting to break into my vehicle when I locked my keys in he pulled the driver's side handle way too hard and broke the spring in the handle.  Then when my ex-fiance attempted to figure out how to fix it he broke the handle all together.

My question is: When I go and purchase a new handle for my 2004 Chevy Malibu, a rather unique handle, is the spring in the new handle or is it apart of the door?

I believe I said driver's side both in the subject and details. The most important handle on the car.

You know, I think it was the "capri" who's handle simply cracked and stopped working...could it have nothing to do with the spring in there, but if we found you a new handle would fix it?

I already know how to get a new handle. I need to know if it is worth my time for a new handle if it wont work because of the spring. Is the spring in the handle or the door that causes the pressure for the door to open?
