Can you refurbish your own altinator and
how is that done

Yes, an alternator can be rebuilt. This is not something the average person can do though. There is recoiling of copper wire and replacing burnt or broken parts inside the casing that needs to be done. Also, safety tests need to be done after the job is finished. There is specialized shops in most major cities than can do it. Do a Google search in your city and one may pop up.
