Why is my Element unable to exceed 69 miles per hour?

Asked by Scoot Feb 20, 2020 at 09:30 PM about the 2007 Honda Element EX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2007 Element with 167,000 miles on it began seriously bucking on a long
trip to Texas. The engine light was on steadily.  Two persistent mechanics tried
everything and finally replaced the position throttle sensor (hope that's right,
I'm not mechanical as you can tell).  The car ran very well and did not guzzle
the gas that it once did. However, now it goes to 69 on the interstate and no
more. When it hits 70 mph, it stops accelerating altogether and swings back to
60 mph.  The Texas mechanics fixed it well enough to get me home to New
Orleans and I'm grateful to them forever. They mentioned that the new problem
may be the oil pressure sensor.  Any thoughts, please?

sensors are easy enough to test and replace, but that alone may not be what's keeping your car from reaching top speeds. You may want to have the transmission tested on a diagnostic stand, as you may be going into your top gear, or your lockup clutch may not be engaging keeping you out of overdrive. Does your Element have a tachometer? Can you check what your engine RPM is when you're doing 69?

Daughters car did that and it was the VVT solenoid, it was not throwing engine codes. the original one started leaking oil, Replaced and this new part caused this issue.
