I have a 91 mercedes 300c and I need to know if I need to replace the fuel pump or do I have a air intake problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 91 mercedes 300c keeps stalling on me when I step on the gas or sometimes sputters and almost stalls. I just bought the car and I am resaleing it but I don't want to put a bunch of money into it.

i would replace the fuel filter first, (much cheaper), and should be anyway. 91, can't remember if it was vacuum driven, could be as simple as a line dry rotted, cracked. you would have to inspect the engine bay thoroughly

I had the same problem and bought a new fuel filter first and it did NOTHING. Turned out, the inside of the distributor cap was all green and moulding. Replace the dist cap and rotor first if it has not been done already. Garage mechanics won't suggest it first because it's such a cheap fix! Not expensive and not hard to do yourself. Hope that helps.
