Mercedes says "ask a dealer to print out" is as far as I could take this thing. not start in the center use a counterclockwise direction to make a spiral for the fasteners gradually bringing the torque up to 80-90 psi, as one might guess. Why can't they just be forthcoming? why must they make a riddle for us?
Get a service manual if you are doing it yourself. And not all engines use a spiral torque sequence. Some start in the middle and work out. Better to check the book, which will give you the pattern as well as the torque sequence. These allow engines are very particular about both. It isn't just a matter of gradually getting to the spec. It is a matter of the increment being specified as well.
