The bushing in the wiper transmission are worn. Your probably going to have to replace the whole assembly. Look at used, coz new they are expensive.

I had the same problem... all it took was a little greasing and it was good to go! I used white lithium grease; but WD40 will work in a pinch, just doesn’t last very long. It’s worth a shot before you spend the $ replacing the entire assembly!
