REAR VIEW MIRROR SMOKE

Asked by GuruZPG4S Nov 21, 2017 at 09:11 AM about the 1997 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 420

Question type: General

This morning, I took my father car to pick up my
cousin that lives 5 miles away from me. It was a
cold morning around 5am. So I cranked up the
heater. It took a while to get warm. Long story short,
after 15mins. Smoke that smelt like rubber oil came
out of the rear view mirror. I immediately turned it
off. What’s the problem!?!

Other then a short of some sort in the rear view mirror, there is no other reason you should have any type of smoke coming from it ?
