Do you have to change both rear struts on 2000 S500 Mercedes at same time

I agree. It’s like replacing one shoe instead. The other will be worn and the strength will not be the same. If those are air-driven, look for the aftermarket option to have coil springs. From 2000-2006 those were Chrysler cars and not exactly the best on some things like the suspension.
