2002 Ford F250 tail light problem

I was having problems with my tail lights and dash lights not working at all. I replaced the Headlamp switch and that fixed some of my problems. I have auto headlamps. My tail lamps work with my headlamps on but when I have it on auto my tail lamps or dash lights do not work. Headlamps work fine. I thought I got a defective switch but I exchanged  for a new switch and same problem. Any ideas?
