Car wanting to over heat

My 2003 Chevy cavalier is wanting to heat up
while the car is on and stil but once the car
starts running the temperature cools down
and drops below the half marker , what could
it be ?

Sounds like the radiator cooling fans are not working. Hope that helps! Jim
