Would a bad ignition cause my 2003 Chevy Impala to need an occassional jumpstart

On a few ocassions lately, my vehicle has needed a jump start. Battery and altenator
have been checked and are fine. Mechanic says it may be a bad ignition. Is that true?

Maybe try changing your spark plugs. They could be old or dirty and need a little more power to get a decent spark.
Do you need a jump because the battery has gone dead on its own or because you were cranking it too much. If it went dead on its own, it has nothing to do with your ignition. If you had to crank it to much its either lack of fuel or spark. I assume you don't have any check engine codes, if you had a misfire you'd have a code. I don't think it's a plug, but it could be related to your coil(s). Could be old plug wires. If your near or over 100k miles plugs and wires should be changed anyway. Try another mechanic, who will give you a better answer.
