I have a 2003 malibu ls sunroff leather cruise and rear . It had a 3.1 I swapped it for 3.4 in 2013 what do i need to fo to get it running its best and get check engine light off too pass inspection

Needs more information 1.How does it run. 2. Did it fire up and run when you got it hooked up. 3.Have you tuned it up yet. 4.Is it missing, backfiring, hesitating, etc..., And last but not least did you clear the codes from the 3.1 before installation of the 3.4

It runs good slight hesitation when u press gas. It runs good just codes no i never tuned it up. No i didn't clear codes first i believe there wasn't a check engine b4 it went out
