This engine would run alot better with the original set up , but , you could go with a carb/intake set up. Provided the intake and gasgets are available for your application . You should be aware that the engine will be of a lower compression and the cam in it,is designed for a supercharger application . this means it will be a bit of a "dog" unless you look into changing the cam , pistons and connecting rods to make the engine closer to non supercharged type of motor.
Ernie, If you are talking about a 99-04 5.4L Supercharged motor, no you absolutely cannot take the supercharger off and replace it with a windsor intake and carb, totally different engine design. However if you do want to put a carb on it, go to http://www.sullivanperformance.com/YVS450/products/intakemanifold/intake5.4.htm Just a heads up, by the time you get all the parts to put a carb on the 5.4, you are going to be about $1500 into it. You could buy the harness and injectors for half that.
you could actually switch it over to a carb if you wanted too, would be alot better with the blower of course but you could buy a set of adapter plates to run a 4.6 manifold on a 5.4 and edelbrock makes a carb intake for the 4.6. (have the adapter plates on a 5.4 that i stuffed into my mustang but naturally i kept the fuel injection)
