Most older automotive systems use a dual electronic circuit on the ignition system it has a start and run on the tumbler .. sounds like the ignition sw may have a bad contact in the run ( spray some wd 40 into the key slot and work it back and forth .... the trucks 27 years old so it may have built up debris inside)

my1988 f 150 runs for about 10 min. then shuts off as if it is running out of gas, let it sit for 5 min. and it will start and run about 5 min and shut off again.
