check the fuse, replace the switch~
It may be the brake light switch on the brake pedal, but make sure the brake light is not burnt out.
it lights up when the head lights are on
What lights up, gotta be specific I'm not there. The tail lights would light up with the head lights on, you said you have a brake light issue.
The brake light and tail light is in the same bulb. You may have another set of tail light bulbs above the brake light/tail light, that is only a 1 filament bulb. The brake light/ tail light has 2 filaments in the bulb. Let me ask you this, do the blinkers work in the rear of the truck?
Ok that narrows it down. Either the brake light relay, brake light switch, or a fuse. Probably the switch or relay.
--or a connection of thin air...at the outside of the socket~ yes...your old friend "the Grounding issue"....what one must do is get your multimeter and test for proper ground at the socket~ you'd be surprised at how little the ground actually gets back there~
If there is ground for the blinker there will be ground for the brake light. Brake fuse or brake switch
