I'm looking at buying a 1994 Ford f-150 XLT Extended Cab 4X4. Speedometer says 44477.7, owner says they are the original miles. How can I be sure ?

I've been told that with certain models the
miles start over at 100,000 miles.

Most vehicles, even one as old as yours will register 100,000 miles. Meaning it will go to 99,999.9 before it flips. Looking at the gauge and see if it has a sixth digit location.
