I just bought a 97 Ford F150 XLT. I noticed while in gear the drivers side power window wont roll up or down. When I put it in park the window works just fine.

It may be a loose/bad wire that is shaken out of place once in gear due to the vibration. I recommend turning on the your F150 without starting the engine and try rolling down/up your window while opening and closing the door to determine if it's a bad wire as wires in the joint of a door tend to fail first in older cars. Either way, it sounds like an electrical issue.
I just turned on the power on the truck and the windows work. I shifted the gear into drive and neutral and the windows work even when closing the door. As soon as I start the engine and put the truck in drive, the windows don't work. I put the truck in park and the windows work. Never seen anything like it. Thanks for your help.
I have the same issue with my truck....Did you ever find out what the problem was??

Crap! Reviving a Dead Thread here. My windows work fine in P or N, but not in R or D. They go up in all gear selections, but they do not go down in R or D. If I am driving, I must shift to N to put the window down, then shift back to D to keep driving. This started as a problem that happened when the headlamps were ON, but it has changed so that the headlamp status does not matter. The driver window is very consistant in the error, the passenger door is hit-or-miss -- the passenger door sometimes works in R & D.
