front brakes are dragging,why?

Question type: General
The front brakes on my 98 f150 recently started to drag and get pretty hot. Now
they lock up just about every time i apply the brake. I can tap the caliper with a
hammer and they will release. Any suggestions?

Maybe you need new calipers or perhaps the flex hoses have gone bad internally.
The primary cause is the brake caliper. This is caused by debris and dirty brake fluid keeping the caliper piston from releasing. Alternatively, it could be the brake hoses but that is less common.
The metal brake lines on the front were changed just before this started..so the system has been bled. I think I'll replace the calipers. The truck has been driven on an ocean beach over the last twenty five years, This was done once a year, but could be the issue. Thanks for the help.
2011 f150 brakes are making funny sound like scraping metal and they're brand new pads put on them should I replace the eclipse that they go on to stop it the sound
