2002 chevy cavialer keeps dieing?

Asked by lindseykincaid Mar 23, 2012 at 02:53 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

everytime i drive my car in cold weather (below 70 degrees) my car dies. but it only happens when im coming to a stop. when it dies my battery stays on and my oil light and battery light come on. when it happens i put my car in park and restart the car, but two days ago it had a hard time starting up again and it scared me. so yesterday i took it into the shop. it has already been in there once before for the same reason. and once again they cant find anything wrong with it. this is so frustrating and i really need some help.

thank you so much.

Possibility that your locking torque converter isn't releasing as you slow down. Locate the wire harness on transmission for locking converter. Unplug this and try the car again.

try to clean the Idle Air Control Motor or IAC, use carb cleaner to do so, either remove it and try it or spray some in the cavity or port in the throttle body with it running while feathering the throttle.
