THIS HOW YOU DO IT . 1ST PUT KEY IN SWITCH 2ND TURN TO ACC LET IT STAY ON OF 11 MINS. TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON TO ACC FOR 11 MINS. TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON TO ACC FOR 11 MINS. IT TAKES ABOUT 33 MINS TO COMPLETE P.S. DO NOT TURN THE CAR ON ALL THE WAY JUST TO THE ACC WHEN TRYING TO RESET . AFTER THE 33 MINS IT'S OK TO START. YOU JUST RESET THE SECURITY SYSTEM...........
This process works...just did it on an 02 sunfire...same car different skin. The only difference on my try was I put the key on "on" instead of acc. ...but it worked
Thanks it worked super for '02 chevy cavalier.

Thank you so much. I was so irritated, stressed and ready to push this car off a cliff. It worked. I have an 02 Cavalier. I turned the key to the on (not start) position then off for the 3 times and 11 minutes and prayed to god it would work and it did. I was so frustrated until I found this post. Thank you!

I keep seeing answers like this and have tried them all with my 2004 Cavalier. I don't have a flashing security light that goes off. When I turn it to start the dash goes blank except for the check light and theft light. New battery, new starter, checked fuses, tried all the reset techniques, tried the key in the lock, jumped up and down on one foot while juggling oranges and singing the national anthem backwards... ready to junk this friggin car! Nothing works!
